Fraunhofer IPMS showcases revolutionary OLED touchscreens

oled_touchscreen.jpg At the Plastic Electronic 2008 show, Fraunhofer IPMS researchers displayed a new OLED touch screen. The absence of heat given out by OLED makes it safe for touch-control applications, and it requires less power than traditional LCD touchscreens due to the absence of a separate backlight panel. Normally, the implementation of touch functions requires additional touch foils on the top of the devices. The new developed touch function requires no additional hardware, because the OLED itself is used to read out the touch signals. OLED TVs and other devices are already being touted as the next big move in the HDTV market, with multiple manufacturers promising large-scale production over the next five years.
