Finally we have detailed information on the Playstation 3 and I am sure you cant wait to get your hands on it. Sony has announced that it will be selling 6 million PS3 units before March 2007. Is Sony being too bullish, the Taiwan gaming industry certainly feels so and has four reasons why Sony will miss it's sales targets.
1) Pricing for the PS3 at US$499 for the 20GB model and US$599 for the 60GB model is too high and consumers might hesitate.
2) Sony is betting a lot on Blu-Ray, but currently the availability of BD players and drives is very limited, and the price level is very high.

3) The appeal to BD compatibility for the PS3 may be unfavorable to successful marketing of BD players and drives by Sony and other brands.
4) Finally the Xbox 360, the main competitor to the PS3 which has already got a headstart as it was launched last November, and the PS3 will hit stores this November. One of the main advantage PS3 had was the inclusion of the Blu-Ray drive, Microsoft has made it even by announcing an add on HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360 which will be released with the PS3, by that time nearly 10 million Xbox 360's will be sold.
So much for the Taiwan gaming industry, here are a few reasons why Sony has an edge over the competition.
1) The PS2 has a huge user base over 100 million are sold as of April 2006 which is more than combined sales of all it's competitors.
2) The PS2 has the widest range of titles available which will be compatible with the PS3.
Only time will tell who will triumph in this fierce battle.
