A major development in the world of smart clothing and what I call ‘a first-hand cinema experience’ is on the brink of realization. Philips has come out with a jacket that can control your emotions, thanks to the evenly-spaced actuators present in it. These are based on the vibrators found in mobile phones. These trigger sensations like a shiver in the spine, or maybe a soothing backrub to bring about emotions like fear or pleasure from a caress (respectively). So with all these feelings pulsating through your body, you end up with the emotion that’s driven by it. The best part is that these feelings are in accordance to the emotions experienced by the characters on the screen. Now this can be awesome while watching something like ‘creature’ movies. I’d love the feeling of a spider crawling down my neck. Brr…

It would be great to have something like this in movies where strong emotions are portrayed. The controllers though can also be used to relieve patients with heart ailments.
