Digital Stethoscope with Embedded Linux
A team of electrical and computer engineering students at Calvin College is designing a digital electronic stethoscope running uClinux as its operating system. There are quite a few embedded devices built on Linux operating systems, medical devices running Linux are rare because of the difficulty in obtaining FDA validation. The device is in early stages of development and the team members are Nate Brinks, Ben Moes, Andy Gabler, and David van Geest.
Coming to the functionality the device will be designed to record and store high-quality audio data from a patient's body, act as a noise cancelling device and reduce the ambient noise the doctor hears. Connect to a computer via USB to transfer the audio files the device will of course be very simple, easy to use and accurate.
