DARPA’s Iron Curtain system protects terrestrial vehicles from missiles
Armored vehicles can now step up their protective shield and defend themselves from oncoming missiles with the help of DARPA’s Iron Curtain system. The curtain is made up of three layers. The first layer comprises of a radar that detects an incoming RPG, the second one is made up of an optical sensor that scans the weapon and detects the best way to beat it. And finally, the last layer that has the right amount of explosives to destroy the oncoming killer. The countermeasure explosive prevents the RPG from exploding with all its might and muffles the whole explosion by a good extent.
The US Army approved the $8 million funding for the Iron Curtain system. It will be put to test by July 2010.
