Cornice introduces world's thinnest hard drive at 1 inch with 12 GB
Cornice has announced the 5th generation of small form factor hard drives which offers 12GB of storage space and is just 1 inch thick. The hard drive is very power efficient and only consumes 5% of battery of a MP3 player. It is designed to withstand most extreme conditions so you can enjoy smooth playback while jogging, driving and even sky diving. With Drop Safe technology the hard drive senses being dropped and if the drive is in the middle of reading or writing data it can immediately react and place the head safely under the active latch well before the unit actually strikes the ground.
The hard drive measures 40 × 30 × 3.5 - 4.75mm and weighs just 11.5 grams. It will start shipping by the third quarter for $85 each in quantities of 10,000 pieces.
