Cocoon could be the next Wii killer

cocoon.jpg When it comes to entertainment systems, we often glue our money on high definition audio and video devices surround sound and the likes. What most of us fail to realize is that entertainment is more a sensory experience, like visiting a theater act or the Opera. It has to do with the experience of being there that gives us the biggest high, a recreation of such an experience has been tried for decades, but nothing has come close. Besides the medium for an experience like this has been limited to just a TV/ computer screen and our numerous control systems to get going. The Cocoon is a new VR system developed by NAU, which is a human-sized pod akin to those seen in The Fly series of movies. The Cocoon is actually designed with videogames in mind. Moreover, while it certainly won't be "the next Wii" in a literal sense, its immersion and interactivity definitely make it a candidate for what's in store, it includes full 3D surround sound, and graphics as well as native Internet connectivity, the Cocoon is the ultimate gaming environment to challenge friends from around the world.

Even if the Interactive Cocoon does not appear in a home near you anytime soon -- if ever -- the prospect of this technology is fantastic. Game graphics and audio seem good enough as they are; it's the interactivity, interface, and immersion we're most concerned with. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are all probably considering if this is the next big thing to take over the home entertainment scene.
