Canon XH A1S and XH G1S "prosumer" HD camcorders

canon_xh_a1s_1.jpg The HDV XH A1S and XH G1S are the two new offerings from Canon. The duo feature a 20x HD video lens, manual zoom / focus, three independent manual adjustment rings, an "unprecedented" range of image / color settings, 60i / 30F / 24F frame rate options, Instant AF focusing system, the DIGIC DV II proprietary digital signal processor, two built-in XLR terminals with separate audio-input sensitivity settings, line output level switching and support for optional HDD recording in the field. Acceleration and deceleration have been added to the zoom when starting and stopping in the zoom key mode.

The difference lies with the XH G1S including HD-SDI / SD-SDI output, SMPTE timecode input / output, and genlock input. The duo from Canon will appear next month with the XH A1S selling for $3,999 and XH G1S selling for $6,999.
