Canon set to launch new type of SED TV after winning a lawsuit

canon_sed_tv.jpg After clearing a dispute with Applied Nanotech, Canon is finally ready to launch a new TV set. According to Applied Nanotech, Canon had illegally sublicensed its patents whjen it joined hand with Toshiba to mass produce the TV, but the suit was quashed. The quirk about the new set is that it is based on surface-conduction electron-emitter displays, or SED. This kind of televisions boasts of wide viewing angle and deep colors as viewed with a traditional cathode-ray television, however they are as thin as a liquid-crystal or plasma display. SED is a technology that rivals OLEDs, but the significance lies behind the fact that Sony and Samsung back OLED technology.
