ASUS may soon quit Windows mobile as it signs up to Android

Asus n Android.JPG HTC had better look out; ASUS is all set to launch a new phone with the Android platform on board. The appeal of Android is real. Android is free and that makes the appeal only stronger. Handset OEMs can download the entire platform at no cost. That saves immense time in developing and fostering a mobile platform on their own. It will speed devices and hardware to market, and offers the potential of the Android Market and the nearly unlimited possibilities of running applications and Web-based services.

Asus is planning the first Android-powered handset to debut in the first half of 2009 and will be launched initially in Taiwan.
