Arsenel fans could soon view replays of matches on a PSP
The Premier League club has struck a deal with Sony that will allow fans at the Emirates Stadium to adapt their PlayStation Portables to watch and store match action. The state-of-the-art stadium, which replaced Highbury stadium opened in 2006 at a cost of £430 or $650 million in Islington, a borough in North London. The facility is one of the most sophisticated stadiums in the world. Fans already have the ability to receive pre-match information and statistics as well as review plays on the many HD screens. The streaming will only be available inside the ground to stop fans watching in nearby pubs. Match highlights, however, can be stored on the machines.
The personalized instant video replay is the next step in bringing the supporters closer to the action and encourages people to arrive earlier to the games. Arsenal and Sony Europe will need to resolve some TV rights issues, but the plan is to begin the service at the beginning of next season.
