Apple’s new patents will enable easier parking, gesture controls and solar chargeable iPhones

apple_solar_parking_assistanc_patent-1.jpg Apple’s got a whole new barrel of patents filed for things that range from finding parking space for your car and solar charging. I like the last one. On this list of patents filed is a system called "Kinematic" input which involves motion and gesture based control for Apple devices. This would be handy for designers as well as gamers and could make overall navigation more intuitive and interactive.

Next up is their parking location app called "Parking & Location Management Processes & Alerts". The app ties into the data base of the current you’re in and with the help of the cities local services, it’ll pinpoint available parking locations. The app also uses the handset’s GPS antenna to calculate arrival times based on the final destination and its proximity to the parking spot as well as the amount of time it will take to walk from the parking spot to the area you’re destination. This is going to be a hot number for NYC residents.

A third, and my favorite patent, is for Solar cell recharging for iPods and iPhones. Sure there are plenty of third party solar charging devices that are out there but sometimes it’s just better getting on from the manufacturer of your handset. Of course this would also have to be a hardware alteration since there’s obviously no application that would allow you charge a device. The app coinciding with the ‘attachment’ would only determine if and when charging is necessary, like the battery meter. But to automate the system, the circuitry would be designed to interpret the current battery state and adjust activity to extend battery life or rely more on external solar power.

I’m sure there’s plenty more we can expect.
