Apple patents its own laptop handles

Third parties have sold attachable handles for Apple laptops for some time. Now Apple may be preparing to get in the game itself with future laptops. An Apple patent (number 7508662) for a handle arrangement with integrated heat pipe has appeared at the US Patent & Trademark Office. The inventor is Ray Chang. One reason for this challenge is that high powered portable devices can generate significant amounts of waste heat energy over a relatively compact area. As such, damage due to heat cycling may cause collateral damage to components in close proximity to heat generators. In conventional solutions, fans may be utilized in coordination with a heat sink to dissipate generated waste heat. In some examples, where fans are utilized to cool components, battery life may be significantly lowered. The iBook G3 Clamshell had a handle which was removed from later models. I am going to reserve my judgment on the final design because handles usually don’t mess real well with the terms “thin and sleek design” but this is Apple, so you will never know!
