Acer to ship Blu-ray laptop

acer_push_images.jpg Now that the HD DVD format has been given the boot, Acer plans on cashing in on the Blu-ray format. Although they had signed up to both next-gen formats, they predicted, "the sales boost of Blu-ray drives would first be seen in notebooks rather than standalone players." According to Scott Lin, president of Acer, the company will be launching BD-capable notebooks in the second quarter of this year. Apparently most homes don't have Full HD (1080p) ready TVs, so a notebook with a Blu-ray disc drive and full HD panel will be a better strategy. Of the two notebooks to be introduced in the lineup, one will sport an 18.4-inch screen and the other will sport 16-inches, both will support HD quality images.
