A World Without People

doom_ny.jpg In one of his articles on the Daily Mail, author, Nigel Blundell talks about the documentary “Life After People”. The documentary tries to forecast what Earth will look like after humanity is wiped out. The documentary seems to be reminiscent of the movie “I Am Legend”. Of course without Will Smith and the viral-infected people and the mad beasts and err…the survival camp. Comprenez vous? Unlike the movie, the documentary uses scientific expertise and understanding of history to predict the future. The documentary shows how post the loss of electricity, modern structures will fall apart within 50 years. Adding to this theory, Blundell mentions how Central London will be under water because without power, the Thames Barrier will lead the city defenceless. The incursion of vegetation and effects of the weather will leave the Eiffel Tower looking like gigantic monument of rusted scrap metal and the likes of the Tower Bridge in London, a fungi-loving monument. Bears and wolves will be the species roaming the streets, eradicating all livestock. And in 100 years large beasts such as the elephants will be the predominant species. According to Blundell, if aliens were to come to our planet during this time (the joys of an active imagination!) they might just think that Egyptian civilization was the last on earth. And the Dead Sea Scrolls that lasted for centuries in desert caves will get destroyed within 100 years without temperature and humidity controlled modern archive facilities. Blundell ends his article saying how all records of our human will fade away, leaving little evidence that we ever existed. Happy bloke this Blundell ain’t he?
