A Blu-ray DVD hybrid disc set to ease compatibility issues

DVD.JPG A Japanese entertainment software developer Infinity, have announced that they are to release the first movie title on a hybrid Blu-ray/DVD disc in Japan, which should be some time in February. These new hybrid discs will bring together two formats, the older traditional and still loved DVD, as well as the newer and better quality Blu-ray. The new hybrid disc was developed over two years ago by JVC, the top has a blue laser layer of 25GB, while underneath there are two more layers, this time the standard 8.5GB DVD. Blu-ray's blue laser will be able to recognize one layer, while a DVD player's red laser will see the other. Infinity has also noted that discs containing a couple of Blu-ray layers and a solitary DVD layer are also possible, which opens up the door to even more possibilities in the future.

The TV series Code Blue will see playable versions of both formats; will ship on February 18 next year for approximately $408 for the entire 11-episode box set.
