$550 million wind farms for Mexico's oil lack
Slumping oil prices hasn't let the Mexicans down completely. They have instead found a natural alternative that they are hoping to generate up to 5,000 megawatts of energy. Mexico has unveiled a huge wind farm project worth $550 million spanning an area of 6,180 acres. It is one of the windiest areas on the narrow isthmus between Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean and is rightly called La Ventosa or 'windy'. The country's taking help from Spanish companies to come invest in their gold mine. At present Spanish company Acciona Energia is working on the aforementioned area with 167 turbines of which 25 are already operating.
As in normal, there is a flip side to this progress. The locals are not liking the idea of others coming on their land and pocketing the profits and feel the resources should be solely for their benefits and not use their land to feed US corporate moguls. But the Spanish company says they have already provided 850 jobs indirectly asking them to shut up and grab what they get. With newly found options, lets hope to see the Mexican bank counters clicking again.
