Here’s something you have never heard off or seen before - an eco-friendly building that generates more power than it consumes. Sounds unreal? But this is exactly what The Masdar Headquarters outside Abu Dhabi is all about thus creating history. A blast from the past - Mechanical Calculators

Before the invention of micro chips and vacuum tubes there were Mechanical calculator's, which were on every desk from the early 1900's to the 60's. Navy Battleships progressing toward invisibility.

Seems to me that a lot of Hollywood science fiction writers are given physics jobs at the navy. If all goes well then the Austin Martin in the movie Die another day could soon be a reality. Wars throughout the twentieth century prompted advances in stealth technologies. Some of the earliest but most significant strides towards invisibility involved covering ships with flamboyant cubist patterns – a technique known as "dazzle painting". During the Second World War, the US military...

Californian cows gassing up the grid.

On a dairy farm in the Golden State's agricultural heartland, utility PG&E Corp began on Tuesday producing natural gas derived from manure, in what it hopes will be a new way to power homes with renewable, if not entirely clean, energy. The Vintage Dairy Biogas Project, the brainchild of life- long dairyman David Albers, aims to provide the natural gas needed to power 1,200 homes a day, Albers said at the facility's inauguration ceremony. As cow manure decomposes, it...

Data security in today's work environment is of the utmost importance. In the worst case scenarios not having a backup of all recent data could spell doom for any PC user. Although the idea sounds a bit hazardous, but you need not worry because BMW says that the drivers will not be able to use the wireless internet technology known as ConnectDrive while the car is in motion. The browser is accessed and controlled via BMW's iDrive interface, with Web pages showing up in the high-res dash-mounted display. The system only operates in the front seats while the car's engine is off, but rear-seat passengers will be able to surf...

Texting Leads while walking makes you bump into Lamp Posts

Like a scene out of a Laural and Hardy movie, imagine that you are walking down the street and texting a message to a friend at the same time. Come to think of it, it actually happens in real life too. Apparently a street in London is to experiment with applying protective padding to lampposts, to protect pedestrians who have a habit of walking into them while focusing on their mobile phones. The padding up will start at London's...

Asus MS71 wireless mouse double as a storage device

Unveiled at Cebit 2008 the Asus MS71 looks more like a large USB drive but it is much more than that. The unit opens up into two parts a USB drive which doubles as a mouse transmitter and the second unit is a wireless laser mouse with a scroll wheel. The receiver (mouse) has a magnetic locking mechanism which attaches the transmitter for charging. Technical details and pricing are not known for now. (More images after the jump)...
