The official News agency of Nigeria (NAN) is reporting that a NIgerian school has received 300 a gift of 300 laptops - one per pupil but has no electricity to power them up. Galadima Primary is the first school in the country where each pupil has his own laptop. Electricity is indeed a big problem in Nigeria, the world's sixth largest exporter of crude oil. Only big cities get power however the service is at best erratic....

Current hard drives which use magnets to write and read binary data are hitting a speed block and if computers are to become faster they will require a different and faster data transfer medium. Researchers at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands have used laser light to write data to a magnetic hard drive at very high speeds. The technique works because the photons transmitted by the laser actually carry angular momentum, allowing them to interact with the hard drive....

A really unique combination we have got here a mouse which doubles up as a counterfeit money detector. Working is pretty simple place the note or gift certificate under the mouse and activate the UV scanner via the scroll wheel and spot the not.
